At Interplan, we’re proud to have partnered with CCI Health Services, a non-profit organization providing high-quality, affordable healthcare to patients at all stages of life, to design their new 48,000 SF facility in Prince George’s County, Maryland. This facility is the largest in the area, providing comprehensive care to uninsured and underinsured residents, enhancing access and promoting equity within the community.

For this project, CCI Health Services acquired a one-story building and demolished the entirety of the interior for a complete renovation. From the outset, CCI’s vision was clear: to create a comprehensive healthcare center that enhances community access. Our design reflects this mission, with areas thoughtfully crafted to accommodate primary care, pediatrics, OB/GYN, ophthalmology, dental care, residency, and administrative departments—all under one roof.

Key design features include:

‍

• Primary Care, Pediatrics, OB/GYN, and Ophthalmology: Each department features dedicated exam rooms, labs, offices, and more. Additionally, the primary care includes a large centering room for pre- and post-natal counseling and support.
• Dental Services: The dental department is over 7,000 SF and features operatories, a large lab, and two panoramic X-ray units.
• Residency Program: More than 10,000 SF is dedicated to training future healthcare professionals. This area includes exam rooms, offices, a library, wellness rooms, and showers for medical residents.
• Pharmacy: A 1,200 SF pharmacy next to the primary care waiting room provides patients convenient, on-site access to medications.
• Administration Department: The administration department spans over 11,000 SF and includes a versatile training room that can double as event space, along with multiple conference rooms.

Recognizing that a successful healthcare environment also depends on staff well-being, our design includes:

• Two Large Breakrooms: Designed for staff to recharge, these spaces are essential for maintaining high morale and efficiency.
• Central Work Pods: These collaborative spaces are distributed throughout the facility to support physicians and medical assistants, promoting teamwork and streamlined care delivery.
• Training Room: The administrative area features a large training room with a capacity for up to 400 occupants, along with large and small conference rooms to support ongoing education and development.

Additionally, the facility is equipped with a backup generator, ensuring it can continue operating as an emergency center during extended power outages. This vital feature underscores the building’s role as a safety net for the community, especially during times of crisis.

At Interplan, we are proud to have worked with CCI Health Services, Korth Construction, Caliber Design, Lighting Environments, and Mannington to design this state-of-the-art healthcare center. It exemplifies our commitment to creating spaces that meet today’s needs while fostering healthier, more equitable communities for the future.
