Interplan is currently about halfway through our current office move process. We began in early 2024 and are planning to be in our new office space at the beginning of 2025. We have done the hard work of developing our program, prepared our construction drawings, and selected a contractor. Over the next few months we will be posting entries that will describe in more detail the actions and steps that we have already taken and we will also share current challenges and progress as we take our own project over the finish line and move into our new space.

Interplan is in the process of moving offices, turning this transition into an exciting opportunity to redesign our workspace for the future. We're evaluating our current layout and making improvements to better support virtual collaboration, flexible schedules, and our team's creative needs. As we searched for a new location in the Tyson's Corner area, we're focused on amenities like parking, fitness facilities, and dining options to enhance the employee experience. With the help of trusted real estate brokers, we’ve secured a new space and are crafting a design that fully showcases our expertise in interior architecture and design.

When planning our own corporate move, the process felt different from our usual work. We relied heavily on our real estate broker allies to navigate the vast inventory of potential spaces. After outlining criteria like location, architectural identity, and affordability, brokers quickly presented options. We narrowed down from 15 buildings to 6 contenders, conducting in-person tours to evaluate factors like accessibility, visibility, and building structure. Brokers provided detailed comparisons, including financial details and lease terms, making their expertise invaluable. Confident in our informed decision-making, we're now moving forward with "test fits" in the selected spaces.

Interplan had the exciting opportunity to participate in this year’s Cosmo Couture fashion show, embracing the theme “Out of This World.” Partnering with Mohawk Group, the team designed a garment named "Divine Dawn," inspired by celestial elements and crafted from unconventional materials like carpet yarn and vinyl flooring. Starting in June, our creative process included brainstorming sessions, prototyping, and countless hours perfecting the look, resulting in a cosmic, metallic-toned outfit that captivated on the runway. While we didn’t take home an award, we celebrated the experience as a journey of innovation, collaboration, and artistry, proud of the statement we made.

Interplan partnered with CCI Health Services, a non-profit organization providing high-quality, affordable healthcare to patients at all stages of life, to design their new 48,000 SF facility in Prince George’s County, Maryland. This facility is the largest in the area, providing comprehensive care to uninsured and underinsured residents, enhancing access and promoting equity within the community. For this project, CCI Health Services acquired a one-story building and demolished the entirety of the interior for a complete renovation. From the outset, CCI’s vision was clear: to create a comprehensive healthcare center that enhances community access. Our design reflects this mission, with areas thoughtfully crafted to accommodate primary care, pediatrics, OB/GYN, ophthalmology, dental care, residency, and administrative departments—all under one roof.

The rising vacancy rates in the DMV area are pushing building owners to modernize and repurpose office buildings, including converting them into medical office buildings. While these conversions don’t change the building's primary use classification, they do come with unique requirements, such as zoning distinctions, increased parking, ADA compliance, and utility upgrades.
