The Association of the United States Army (AUSA) recently asked Interplan to refresh their Conference and Event Center (CEC). The challenge was to increase the seating capacity by condensing a 500-square-foot server room into a 120-square-foot space. The primary goal was to create a modern, flexible environment that maximizes the use of daylight while maintaining the necessary technical capabilities. The original server room was positioned along the window line, blocking natural light from entering the CEC. By reducing the size of the server room and relocating it, the new design opens the space to an influx of daylight, creating a brighter and more welcoming atmosphere.
To enhance the space's aesthetics and acoustics, linear acoustical wood slat paneling was incorporated into the design. This not only helps mitigate sound reverberation but also adds a layer of warmth to the room. The design also includes two new state-of-the-art display screens suspended from the ceiling and an advanced sound system to ensure an immersive and high-quality viewing experience. A custom lighting element of concentric light rings embedded into the drywall ceiling further elevates the design, providing soft, even lighting while adding a modern, visually striking element.
Additionally, a new acoustic glass operable partition was added to divide the pre-function area from the meeting room. The seating can be reconfigured to meet the needs of different groups, and meeting styles offer comfort and versatility. Overall, this design project successfully blends modern technology, acoustics, and functionality, focusing on creating a welcoming, flexible environment that can serve multiple purposes and encourage interaction and engagement.
